What is the CLAT exam 2022?

CLAT stands for ‘Common Law Admission Test.’ It is a centralised national level entrance test held each year by the national law university. Students get admissions to 22 national law universities in India for undergraduate and postgraduate law courses through this test. After clearing this exam, students can get admission in integrated courses of law programs such as LLB and LLM with a duration of 3 to 5 years. 

Public sector undertakings and other private law colleges & universities use the scores of the CLAT exam for further admissions and recruitment processes. The students with 45% marks in their 10+2 exams are eligible to take this test.

Syllabus of CLAT 2022 syllabus with weightage

The various subjects included in the CLAT syllabus are English, legal aptitude, general knowledge, elementary mathematics, current affairs and logical reasoning.

The CLAT pattern has 150 questions, and you get 120 minutes to attempt the paper. For every correct answer in the exam, you get one mark and have a negative marking for every wrong answer, equal to 0.25. The exam is conducted in the English language and offline mode.

Comprehensive English

In this section, you get 28 to 32 questions

Its weightage is 20% 

General knowledge and current affairs

This section comprises 35 to 39 questions

Its weightage is 25%

Elementary mathematics

In this section you get 35 to 39 questions

Its weightage is 25%

Logical reasoning

In this section, you get 28 to 32 questions

Its weightage is 20%

Legal aptitude

This section comprises 13 to 17 questions

Its weightage is 10%

CLAT syllabus with detailed subject information:

  • English language: This subject tests the grammatical knowledge of the candidate. It also checks the English proficiency and ability to solve passages of a candidate. This section consists of topics like comprehensive passages, nouns, pronouns, adverbs, and many more.
  • General knowledge & current affairs: This topic reviews the knowledge about current events and recent developments. Under this subject, topics covered are banking & finance, Indian tax structure, the national income of India and many more.
  • Elementary mathematics: In this subject, the candidate needs to analyse the graphical information mentioned in the question paper. It consists of topics like statistics, basic algebra, profit and loss, time & work, and many more. 
  • Legal aptitude: This subject tests the candidate’s knowledge to identify the principle and facts from the passage. Some important topics covered in this chapter are legal terminologies, public policy, moral-philosophical inquiries, moral issues, and so on.
  • Logical reasoning: This subject checks the skills to identify patterns and arguments. The topics covered in this section are logical puzzles, analogies, sequences, etc.

CLAT pattern for 2022 exam

The CLAT pattern for the 2022 exam is divided into different segments, which are described below in detail:

  • Question analysis is passed based: Except for the quantitative technique section, the whole question paper will comprise 300–400-word paragraphs. This is the concept used for making a question paper. 
  • Quantitative section: This section consists of questions like graphs, numerical questions, a brief collection of propositions or facts, other textual questions, etc.
  • Standard of questions: The CLAT exam is graded based on 10+2 marks and grades.
  • Skill tested: All among the other things, this exam will test the candidate’s ability to think critically, analyse analytically and read.
  • No. of questions contained: The exam consists of 150 objective type questions.

Conclusion

CLAT is the most challenging entrance exam for law students. It is conducted every year; it tests the students’ ability and gets them registered in the bar council of India. After the registration, each student can start their practice in court.
